Guide to Services 2003-2004: Office of Information TechnologyFor New EmployeesOnce beginning work at the University, new employees should attend one of the orientation sessions offered by Human Resource Development. The following services may or may not be covered during orientation. Computer AccountsIn order to access the local network, University employees need accounts on their departmental servers. Supervisors, department heads, or administrative staff should be able to assist new staff members in getting departmental accounts. New employees should also get an account on bama.ua.edu. This can be used for e-mail, research, or publishing a Web site. New faculty members have accounts created for them; other employees may bring their Action cards to the HelpDesk in A-203 Gordon Palmer Hall to get accounts. For administrative computing such as student records, employment, purchasing, and budgeting, the Office of Information Technology maintains a separate secure system. Authorization is granted only to individuals needing access to this information. The administrative staff in each department should be able to assist those individuals needing accounts on this system. Network AccessIf office network connections are not working, those needing assistance should call the HelpDesk at 348-2435 to request activation. To get additional connections, departmental administrative staff should fill out the service request form on the Telecommunication Web site, telecom.ua.edu. Telephone ServiceTo have office telephone service activated, new University employees should ask departmental administrative staff to make the request with Telecommunication at telecom.ua.edu. |
