SFTP Clients for Macintosh

SFTP is the file transfer component of Secure Shell. FTP, like telnet, passes your username and password in plain text. SFTP encrypts this traffic. You should use SFTP instead of FTP whenever possible.

Macintosh OS X

Like SSH, SFTP support is built into the Terminal application. However, a graphical interface is usually helpful when transferring files. A free application, Fugu, is available from the University of Michigan.

The new 5.x versions of Fetch also support SFTP. This is helpful for those who are used to the Fetch interface.

Macintosh OS 9.x and prior

We do not know of any SFTP clients for OS 9.x at this time. If you know of one, please tell us!
